Aberdeen's Best Curry Awards - Charity Partners

Our headline charity is Find Your Feet, a charity that helps families build a future free from poverty.

One in eight people around the world will go to bed tonight hungry. Find Your Feet supports very poor rural families who suffer from hunger and poverty to grow enough food so they don’t have to go hungry, to strengthen their voice so they can speak out against injustice and to earn enough money so they can find their feet.

The Aberdeen Curry Awards will be supporting Find Your Feet’s campaign Curry for Change, which aims to raise awareness of their work with families who suffer from hunger in India and raise vital funds to ‘change’ lives through a celebration of Indian Cuisine.

£6000 was donated.

Our second charity who will be receiving a share of the profits generated by the ABC Awards will be The Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust, set up to support good causes of all kinds in Aberdeen. It was founded in 1999, by then Lord Provost Dr Margaret Farquhar CBE, with the aim of aiding small City groups and charitable concerns.

Organisations to have received grants include MS Society Aberdeen, Marie Curie, UCAN, Grampian Carers Support Project, Torry Youth Café and Grampian Hospital Radio.

A number of popular events have raised funds for the Trust such as the Walkathon, Three Club Golf Tournament and the Swimathon. Corporate and personal donations also contribute significantly to the fund.

The fund is governed by a board of Trustees, including the Lord Provost, and assisted by an Advisory Committee – including representatives from The Burgesses of Guild, The Seven Incorporated Trades and members of the local business community. The trust meets regularly throughout the year to consider applications and discuss fundraising opportunities.

The third charity is Aberdeen Cyrenians was established in 1968.  Over the last 40 years the range of services offered by Aberdeen Cyrenians has grown considerably.

Originally just providing food and shelter, the services now aim to meet all the varying needs of people affected by homelessness in Aberdeen and the surrounding area.

As a wonderful fundraising opportunity for Aberdeen Cyrenians; supporters and the local community can purchase tickets to attend demonstrations held by renowned chefs here in the North East.

In conjunction with the Aberdeen Best Curry Awards, guests will be able to score the meal they receive based on taste and presentation.  The chef with the highest score will be awarded Chef of the Year title as voted by our guests.
